MINDFULNESS BASED STRESS REDUCTION

Mind and body awareness techniques improve ability to live with symptoms due to stress, pain, or illness. Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating non-judgmental awareness in daily life. It develops the potential to experience each moment, no matter how difficult or intense, with increased serenity and clarity.

SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS

Studies have shown decreases in pain and increase in immune function, lowered blood pressure and heart rate. A three year follow-up study found that significant reduction in anxiety and depression scores, and substantial improvement in panic scores, were maintained along with continued practice.

INSTRUCTOR

Carolyn Bennett, Psy.D. is a Licensed Psychologist (PSY18741) in private practice in Berkeley and San Rafael. She is a member of the American, California and County Psychological Associations. Dr. Bennett has been practicing mindfulness techniques since 1989, including insight meditation, yoga and chi gung. This Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course is modeled on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and was featured on the Bill Moyers’ special, “Healing and the Mind.”

FEE

The fee averages about $28 per class and $75 for the daylong retreat. Payment by check will be $300 + $40 materials fee (Includes CD's for home practice & manual). Ask about other payment options.

Readings will be from Jon Kabat-Zinn's book, Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness (not included in fee).
